How to make your own chopper?
<< >>not chopper bike but real motorcycle HARDCORE chopper
id like to make my own motorcycle from scratch and i dont wanna buy one of those shitty KITS that cost to much i know id need chrome paint and an lawn mower engine
but what else do i need bike parts etc where can i get some what kinds can i get round the house i have loads of old unicycles and bikes but how do u make one into a chopper without paying bucks
any tips or step by step guides i can follow??
For a self described satanist you seem to have a strange idea of Chopper building- how old are you? Now comes the difficult part of answer- Bart has a relatively good idea ( hard to believe he is giving decent answer- but since it doesn’t involve Harleys, oh well) about going to a salvage yard and playing mix and match, make it fit. I’ve done similar projects, so have riding buddies. Bicycle choppers are for under age of license hobbiests.

You had me,.. all the way up until you said LAWN MOWER ENGINE!!! You cannot be serious. I almost fell out of my chair. OK, lets get a few things straight shall we? Lawn mower engine, unicycle parts, and what I can only assume is miscellaneous bicycle parts are used for recycling in order to make the steel for choppers. Thats it. A real chopper is going to cost at LEAST $12,000. Are you with me now? You will have to get your piggy bank mighty full and then some to even get in the same ballpark. Snap into reality and contact a real motorcycle fabricator…and perhaps graduate 8th grade.
hard hat boy -you did no such thing. 12 yob’s don’t know how to weld, cannot design and configure hydraulic systems, and have nothing in which to pull a make believe trailer. -a yamaha that doesn’t even exist doesn’t count.
dingram… I did not have MY OWN thinking cap on. NOW who had their head up their butt? I may need to stand corrected. If she is talking about a (mini)? chopper, well, it still will cost a pretty penny, but it, just like the full size is certainly do-able. carry on young lady and be safe. just don’t expect to use old unicycles and bicycles…

I’m not going to insult you like the poster above me!
I suggest go to your local salvage-scrap metal yard and tell them you want to build a chopper and they will find and sell you what you need, you’ll be surprised what they can find, cheap too at a cheap scrap price. Or, if they don’t have anything, they can take your phone number and be on the look out if anything does come in.
(past experience I was building a log splitter and needed a trailer axle, they had one in excellent shape and I got it for $25)

If you’re talking of a "mini chopper" there should be a free set of plans somewhere on the internet. As far as using lawnmower engines? The easiest way to do that is with a horizontal shaft engine and a jack shaft system. There would be no transmission (like a go cart) but you could use a variable speed torque converter like a golf cart has. I think most of those are for one inch shafts. Anyway, the frame would need to be welded by a professional welder because it is the weakest part and is the base of the entire project’s safety. I would love to tackle something like that but never have the time. Maybe when I get a little older and build my shop here? Over the last 40 years I have done everything from welding to being specialized in fuel injection.

Dear Catrina,
Do you know how to weld and fabricate?
Do you have access to metal working equipment such as milling machines, lathes, grinders, and have the knowledge to operate said equipment?
Do you have the skills to bend and shape sheet metal?
I am asking this due to your statement "id like to make my own motorcycle from scratch….."
Building a motorcycle frame from scratch is a very daunting project. It will cost more than buying a frame out of a catalog.
