Part 5: Motorcycle Rust Removal and Resoration using a Kreem Kit Part 5 of 6
After the acid wash and water rinse, we poured Part “B” of the Kreem Kit in the tank. It removes the moisture and dissolves any minor contaminants left over from the water rinse. This is basically acetone and it will mix with the tank liner if there is any left behind. I would do this twice if I had it to do over again, this tank is really bad…

Ticketed for motorcycle exhaust, need clarification?
I live in CT and was traveling to NYC for a work related meeting. I was riding my GSX-R with Akrapovic street legal exhaust which is legal under CT and NY state law as it emits the same amount of sound pressure as the OEM system. Leaving the hotel to go back home, pull out of the underground garage, travel two blocks "whoop whoop" NYPD pulles me over. The cop aproaches, asks me to get off the bike and step on the sidewalk. "Is that a stock exhaust?" the cop asks me. I tell him, "No, but it’s within the confines of NY state law." His partner got out of the vehicle and was watching me as the cop looked over my bike for an EPA Stamp saying the exhaust is stalk. I was kinda bummed knowing now I’m gonna ride home with a ticket. But then the cop informs me that there is a city ordinance that does not allow any motorcycle with non EPA stamped exhaust are allowed in the city limits and that they are gonna have to TOW MY BIKE!!! I was asked if I wanted to remove any belongings from the bike and was left on the sidewalk with all my gear, a backpack and a ticket looking like a moron. I got home on a taxi/bus/friend’s ride. Now I have an 89′ Ford Ranger to drive. I went online and found out that apparently I’m gonna have to pay $1000 fine to get my bike back + I’m sure towing and storage fees on top of that. As I wait for my day in court, is there any way I can get the ticket dismissed or my bike back? ie. since my bike is out of state? Like you can’t get ticket for 1 plate if you out of state in a 2 plate state. WTF do I do?
I feel your pain as a rider, but before you go stomping into your local courthouse as everyone is saying and slapping the judge, research and get the facts on your city ordinances. It may very well be that the ordinance puts you in violation of their law, and not the states law. Local ordinances often "exceed" the standard of the state law that its fathered by, so it might be to your misfortune, but also read the specs on your exhaust again and read all of it, because that would not be the first time I have seen a discrepancy in the advertisement and disclaimer statements of an aftermarket system. Akro specializes in race systems, and they don’t make a whole lot of street systems historically. I am not up on their current systems and what all they have to offer, but its worth looking into before you piss off a judge and and embarrass yourself. Now, do I agree that maybe he was nitpicking and being a prick??? absolutely might have been, but choose the weapon of your battles carefully and make sure you go into it knowing what you are talking about to save yourself more headache. Good luck on it, and hopefully it works out, cause I know money doesnt grow on trees now days.
Advise on building a custom chopper?
i dont have much expierence, but im a very quick learner. if i were to get a frame made by daytec or rolling thunder, and pick the drive train out from some where like S&S, would it be too much to handel. would i just be better off buying a harley and modifying it with an AME chopper rake kit and wide tire kit and swaping out the motor for an S&S or modifiy the fatory drive train ?
I will have to agree with a little of what everyone said. Having built my bike and several others I can tell you straight up that it isn’t always as easy as it looks. There are alot of hours designing, cutting fitting redesigning and fitting to get the just right look. some of the first things that you need to know is exactly what you want you or your customers bike is going to look like before you even start spending money.. If you are building this for yourself, i would suggest getting a custom kit from some of the very reputable custom builders that are out there and start there. They have taken alot of the guess work out of how thing fit together, from power plant to transmission alignment issues. you also need to figure your rake degrees, what type of front suspension and rear your going to run. then you get into electronic as in where you want to route them to not be seen for that crisp clean look. figure your rear and front tire sizes, going 160,180,200 etc…. then once you get some of all that figured you have all the rest of your sheet metal to figure, how tight do you want the engine to set in it. if you can tell on my pic, i have very little clearance between tank and engine. I myself love the s&s power plants and put them in everything that i build along with baker transmissions. Oh yes don’t forget primary drive prices as well…then the paint…. As you can see there is alot of thinking and planing that goes into building a bike. Like i said there are custom bike shops out there that offer complete rolling chassis kits that just need engine and transmission then wiring and paint. like this link.. http://www.demonscycle.com/Frames-Rolling-Chassis/Rolling-Chassis/Pro-Street-Fat-250-Custom-p9072532.html all said and done it is worth it in the long run. there is nothing like rolling on a full custom. good luck.
