Motorcycle Question: 1975 Honda CB200t?

I'm asking about a 1975 Honda CB200t…

1. I bought the bike a month ago and it was running great. Kicked over first time every time, no problem. One night I went out to take a ride and got nothing. I haven't been able to get it started since. The kick starter turns the engine, but nothing happens. I noticed one of the wires looked bad, so I bought a new OEM ignition coil/wires. Still nothing. The battery is weak; but even after charging it, there was no difference. I'm going to replace the plug and perhaps just buy a new battery. Any other suggestions?? Went from good to nothing literally over night!

Also, I can't get the oil plug to budge. Any suggestions on that?

And finally, it was a little hard shifting gears when it was running. I'd usually get 1st and N ok, but when I would try to kick up to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, the shifter pedal felt like it was getting hung up. Any thoughts?

Your bike is equipped with an electric starter, did you try it ? does it spin the engine over ? if yes, your problem is probably just the points, especially since you have new coils. I would not expect the problem to be with the spark plugs as it's pretty unlikely that they both went bad simultaneously.

Honda gearboxes in the '70's were not the smoothest-shifting around and they also tended to be full of false neutrals. That being said, the first thing I would do would be to change the oil.

The drain plug is probably stuck because it wasn't fitted with the proper crush washer and had to be over-titghtened in order not to leak. Try inserting a long pipe on the end of your ratchet. That should get you enough mechanical advantage to loosen it. And don't forget to fit it with a crush washer when reinstalling it. BTW, you only mention upshifting through 4th; you do know that your bike has 5 gears, right ?
